Not the movie aired on TNT by the same title

We had seen the movie that aired on TNT Febuary 7th, 2009 and really enjoyed it. Searching on Amazon, we found this same title in the “Movie” section on DVD. It is NOT the drama that was aired on TNT. Amazon does not present this product with enough detail to know that it is a documentary of Ben Carson. It is a great video but we still would like to get a copy of the TNT broadcast if they ever release one.

A Life Changing movie for all ages

When I first saw this movie on TNT in January 2009 I was so impressed I began an immediate search for a copy to show my adult children and my grandchildren. This movie is so inspiring for school students, for mothers, for any adult who has not had the self-discipline (myself) to do what is necessary to reach important goals. The message is “If Ben Carson could overcome all he overcame–I can do what I need to do.” Now, he did have a few assets – a phenomenal mother; a core belief in God; a willingness to learn; an unusual amount of morality. He certainly deserves all the wonderful things that came into his later life. I could not find the movie in January, so I read several of his books–a good idea even if you see the movie. He has more to offer than the movie could possibly show. This movie may never win a Hollywood oscar, but it is #1 on my list of family movie greats.

What “can” can do…

In a word: INSPIRING. My six-old son watched this with me. When he saw what young Ben had to go through as a student from his peers and from society, he looked at me with tears in his eyes and said “And he STILL wanted to learn?” He got it. And anyone, young or old will to if you watch this great movie. Kimberly Elise’s portrayal of Sonya Carson brought tears to my eyes, but I never felt sorry for her. Without a lot of explanation, you knew she had a hard life but she was no one’s victim. She did what had to be done whether it be pushing her sons academically or checking herself into a hospital to help deal with her depression (when mental illness was still taboo). Ben’s mother was the real hero of this story and her son’s achievements are the result of her love, sacrifice and deep faith in believing her children could be anything, despite what label society tried to lay on them. This movie is a great excuse buster!

The pinnacle of modern storytelling.

Of all the TV series I have watched beginning to end, Deadwood is the one I keep coming back to. Even though I’ve seen every episode countless times, I still pick up something new with each viewing. It still makes me laugh. It still makes me think. It still gives me chills, and it still makes me cry. It is a brilliant man, executive producer and head writer David Milch, at the peak of his powers as a storyteller. Watching Deadwood is like reading a 1200 page novel from 150 years ago. Broad themes in a small setting, complex and conflicted characters, and detailed scenery make for a completely immersive experience.

There are a great deal of third grade science projects that will be fun for your child to do. Kids this age love to learn new things and find out answers to questions on their own. Encourage them to choose a topic that interests them so it will be fun for them and they will see it through until the end. If they choose a topic that bores them, the parent may end up doing the majority of the work and that’s not good for the parent or the child. One fun project might be to see if every one in their class has the same size feet and hands. All you need for this project is a heap of paper and markers, then trace each child’s hands and feet, and then compare them with the rest of the class’s tracings.

Another fun project is to see if cut flowers last longer in cold water or warm water. All you need for this project is a good deal of white flowers, like carnations, galore water, feed coloring and two vases. Fill one vases half full with warm water and add some feed coloring, then fill the other half full with cold water and add a lot of feed coloring. When finished, put one flower in each and see what happens. Do flowers drink warm water faster, slower or at the same rate as cold water?

No science project has to be complicated, just interesting. As long as you use your imagination, you will come up with a great deal of third grade science projects.

So there’s tons of cheerleaders out there dancing on the field and we never bother to get to know them. All we do is just stare at them dancing, think ‘oh they dance good, look good, typical cheerleaders’ and move on without a thought as to what in truth goes behind the scenes of an NFL cheerleader. Well, I am here to tell you that there is a lot more than meets the eye. All those movies you saw like “Bring it On” and those television shows that showed a bunch of drama queens as cheerleaders have got it all wrong.

Myth #1 – It’s easy being an NFL cheerleader.

Um. No. There is no way that it is easy being a cheerleader. So much goes into the auditions, that you’re lucky to even make it into the squad in the basi place. Hundreds of girls try out and you have to be in the top 3% to make it in the squad, no kidding. They all dance good, look good, are energetic, enthusiastic, and have a outstanding personality on top of all that. After they get into the squad, it takes hours of exercise closely each day in order to get the NFL dancing routines down. It gets worse when they have to dance in the freezing cold, peculiarly in the northern States (which a heap of NFL teams use as an pardon for not having a cheerleading team and yes not each NFL team has a cheerleading squad). Outside of the dances, they likewise have to show up for charity events, make guest appearances, do photo shoots, and on occasion even travel overseas to entertain our very own US military troops to keep their morale high. Whoever said being a cheerleader was easy plainly hasn’t seen one at work.

Myth: NFL Cheerleaders get to meet football stars and date them

Absolutely not. NFL Cheerleaders are not permitted to “fraternize” with the players. That means no flirting, no personal relationships, no personal “friendships”, or anything that might infer a kinship outside of the professional realm of the NFL. Yes, they may interact a little bit at charity events and guest appearances but typically, you’d have better luck getting to know the football stars as a janitor cleaning their locker rooms or being a heap of sort of groupie. Cheerleaders going out with the likes of Tom Brady and Randy Moss? Forget in regards to it.

Myth: NFL Cheerleaders rack in the fame and fortune

How much do cheerleaders get paid in the NFL? The answer to that question is $15 to $50 a game. Heck, there are times when they don’t get remunerated at all. They have to show up at guest appearance, photo shoots, overseas performances for US troops and all of that is most likely unpaid. Don’t feel too bad for them. Some of them get out of cheerleading and find that a bunch of probabilities await them because of their NFL cheerleading elite status. Teri Hatcher from Desperate Housewives was a San Francisco 49ers Gold Rush Cheerleader once and look where she is now. Making $285,000 an episode and multiply that by 10+ sequences per season. Now who wants to be an NFL cheerleader?

Myth: NFL Cheerleaders are stupid and act like valley girls

Yes, NFL cheerleaders are hot but who said you can’t combine beauty with brains? People tend to associate cheerleaders with light-headed valley girls who take delight in going buying goods and being the drama queens. Well these cheerleaders aren’t in high school anymore for one thing. Another thing is that these cheerleaders need to be mature and intellectual so that they may answer to the media. After all, they are an crucial aspect of the team’s public image.

NFL cheerleaders is worthy of a better reputation. Sure there are a few black sheep out there but in general, the NFL cheerleaders are good girls who do their best to carry out for us. The least we could do is show our appreciation. Don’t forget they likewise bestow to the community in respective charity events so they do aid out on a local and national level. Let’s show our aid for them and give them the credit they deserve.

Desperate Housewives – Season Two

Well, the second season of “Desperate Housewives” has finally come to an end. Season two for the most part was a pretty good one, though not quite as good as season one. While the writing and acting was still first-rate, there were a few things about season two that didn’t work.

Great, but thank god it’s over!

Don’t judge this review by its title! I am a devout Housewives fan and have gotten other friends hooked on it, too. Looking back at Season 2, by time the finale had ended, we all knew much more about our favorite Housewife’s personality. For example, who knew Gabrielle had such a soft inside? Eva Longoria and Marcia Cross shone as their characters developed more and I fell even deeper in love with Bree, a psychological complex of love, disappointment, perfectionism, and unresolved childhood issues. The actresses’ skills were all pushed to the limit and I admire their ability to surpass my my expectations always.

On the other hand the storylines were a bit silly at times, mostly due to a weak season mystery: Susan’s attempted marriage to the gay guy, and how Xiao-Mei was a hidden slave, not to mention the Applewhite hiatus that we experienced towards the end of the show, the Applewhites are the season mystery for heaven’s sakes! The Applewhites were also a little too isolated from the neighborhood, I mean we know that Betty is secretive but she doesn’t communicate with Gabrielle or Lynette throughout the season! Season 1 was practically bullet-proof, so let’s see that come back.

Complaints aside, I did enjoy Season 2, it’s the one that got me hooked in the first place, I watched Season 1 on DVD after watching the Season 2 premiere. Don’t be put off by the storyline goofs, I omitted the enjoyable parts of Season 2, which outweigh the goofs, so as not to spoil it for you.

The finale seems very promising, so I hope Season 3 continues the great work but factors in a more riveting mystery. Buy this set, and enjoy the top-notch acting (better than Season 1), the amazing Brenda Strong’s narration, top-notch production, and in many cases, issues that hit home.

Hysteria at Wisteria, part two

Rumour had it that the second season was weaker than the first. Don’t believe the hype : there’s more dark secrets, reversals of fortune, crazy laughs and heart-breaking situations in these 24 episodes of a series that took the TV world by surprise. Crazy cameos (Ryan O’Neal, Maria Conchita Alonzo), new neighbors, and Bree going down at high speed : TV series has never been that good since… “6 Feet Under”, maybe ?

If you are a fan of the Broadway Musicals, this is a collection that you should purchase. Since I got the 5 disc set I’ve enjoyed listening to it. The majority of the songs are done by the original singers. The collection is priceless considering that you will have over 100 songs from popular musicals since the beginning of Broadway

Here are ten tips to lose the greatest or most complete or best possible amount of fat, body weight and drop inches that I have shared with a heap of of my clients that have asked me– does Zumba aid you lose weight and inches

Tip #1: Take a Zumba dance class a minimum of three times a week. Using videos is fine but there is something with regards to the excitement and energy in a Zumba class that makes the workout so much fun.

Tip #2: Watch what you eat and read nutrition labels. Look for feed merchandise with no trans-fats and little completely filled fat. Raw fruits and vegetables, plain popcorn and yogurt are more salubrious snacks.

Tip #3: Drop the soda and choose calorie free flavored water rather of sugary beverages.

Tip #4: Pack your lunch to work and fetch a heap of healthful snacks to prevent that candy machine run.

Tip #5: Almonds are king of nuts add them to salads or have 10 as a snack. Almonds give you extra magnesium, what a bonus…this will help you sleep restfully.

Tip #6: Add low fat dairy– diets high in calcium support you metabolize fat.

Tip #6: GO FISH…diets high in omega 3 fatty acids help boost metabolism.

Tip #7: Eat eggs…egg whites eaten at breakfast are great for making you feel fuller, longer. No growling stomach here.

Tip #8: Build muscle with beans. They are packed with protein, fiber, & iron they are an splendid low calorie addition to your foods, salads & soups.

Tip #9: Swap your morning beverage for Green Tea. Green tea has been proven in nutritional studies to boost metamorphosis and aid in fat burning.

Tip #10: Go in front eat galore carbs…just don’t over do it, they may bloat you. Make sure they are whole grain ONLY. From pretzels to mini bagels to sushi, anything and everything comes in whole grain these days so no excuses! Just don’t eat more than 2 servings a day to maximize the pounds you’you’ll drop.

Fun dance workout…

Another workout from the Dance off the Inches series, this one is led by Michelle Dozois, who has appeared in quite a few workout videos over the years. She is joined by 4 other ladies, including Marie Forleo who has led Crunch Cardio Dance Blast and Prevention’s Dance Yourself Thin. They are all in a cozy living room setting ready to groove.

One feature of this DVD is a step guide, which demonstrates many of the moves that make up the foundation of the workout. I was glad to find this in this and other Dance off the Inches workouts that I have tried. I am not the best when it comes to dance moves, so it’s nice to have this little tutorial when I need it. Michelle will show you the move, slow at first then at tempo, plus she will show any additional variations that might be seen in the workout, any arm movements that go with it for example.

You start with a fun warmuup and move into the first of three dance routines called Shake Those Hips. Some of the steps seen here include single and double hip shakes, side taps, grapevines and circle walks. Then you will move into the next dance routine, Latin Spice. Here you will see the Spicy March, the slide, cross & bounce, mambo, cha chas (with a turn added), kickball change and shoulder shimmeys.

The final dance segment is Jazz it Up. This routine includes chasses, drags, narrow/wide march (out out in in), quick lunges, tap front/back, box step, side taps, double taps and hops. Then it’s time to cooldown.

I thought Michelle did a nice job in this workout, she seems to be having fun here and interacts with her backgrounders throughout, asking them to show what kind of arms they like to do with a certain step, etc. I enjoyed her as an instructor. The moves aren’t terribly hard to pick up but they are fun to do and once you get them down you can really get into it. The music is okay, didn’t particularly stand out to me but I didn’t dislike it either. Overall I give this one a solid 4 stars. I have a few workouts in this series and enjoy them all. They aren’t terribly complex which is good for me, some other dance workouts that I have tried are just too hard to follow. Those like me who have 2 left feet, this would be a good choice.

Disappointingly Simple

If you’re looking for something basic that doesn’t have any complex choreography, then you’re in the right place. If you’re looking for something fresh, fun, funky and challenging, then this DVD is certainly not it.

Michelle Dozois is a certified Pilates instructor, and it shows, due to her lack of personality in demonstrating the dance moves. The choreography is basic, dull, and uninteresting. I was able to pick it up in one go without being challenged too much.

Here’s what you get

10MIN TEACHING SEGMENT – For people who are new to dance-aerobics, Michelle takes first timers through a 10 minute segment which spends 1 minute on each of 10 different steps that are used throughout the workout. This is good for people with two left feet and are lacking in coordination, but I found it excruciatingly slow to go through it, with the moves being so basic that I could pick most of them up from sight at full tempo. Of course, the advantage of having such a segment completely separate from the main workout itself is I didn’t have to use this segment if I didn’t want to.

35MIN DANCE WORKOUT – As well as the warmup and cooldown, there are three dance segments. Honestly, I found two out of three of these boring and unoriginal. Michelle Dozois lacks personality and that go-get-em attitude that draws people into a workout. I was stunned when the workout started to see that Marie Forleo is one of the back-up exercisers in the workout. Marie Forleo has two dance DVDs herself; one from Crunch and one from Prevention, and a Dance Off The Inches DVD due to be released soon. This workout might have been more of a success if Marie had lead it instead of Michelle.

I will say that the third of the three dance segments is considerably more fun than the other two, which is why I gave this DVD 3 stars.

But its nowhere near as fun, challenging and innovative as the original Dance Off The Inches disc with Juliane Arney. I’d still recommend that workout over this one any day of the week. And there’s no sign of the 1-2-3 tempo system that was present in the original discs; whether thats a good or bad thing is subjective. I prefer learning things at tempo than slower, since my heart rate stays elevated for longer.

The set throughout all of the Dance Off The Inches series resembles that of someone’s living room, to bring through the theme of ‘come on over and party at my house!’, though the set on this DVD makes me feel like I’m in someone’s kitchen rather than in someone’s living room. The set will date quickly, as has been shown in Dance Off the Inches two previous discs.

SUMMARY
- Easy to follow
- 10 minute teaching segment good for those new to dance aerobics
- 1-2-3 tempo segments from previous in the series not present in this disc
- Lacking originality in choreography
- Instructor lacking dance oomph
- Set will date quickly

Really good and fun too :->

You’ve probably seen Michelle Dozois in some Prevention dvds and 10 Minute Solution dvds. She’s really outgoing and fun without being too over the top or annoying. Instead, you find yourself having a blast and you’ve done a great workout before you know it.
This is one such fun workout. It’s easy to follow and easy to do. It’s only a little over half an hour so it’s not that hard to find the time for it. She lets you know that it’s ok to either follow exactly what the others are doing, or make up your own style. There’s a fair bit of dancy moves, but not hard and it’s like a moderate impact workout. You don’t need to be totally fit, but somewhat co-ordinated and not to have two left feet.

This Summary of the Bible, Genesis to Revelation was written to give a “big picture” view of the story of the Bible. In order to put all of the stories that you have already heard into one comprehensive story. I do not intend to tell the person stories, but to tell the major story line of God’s chosen people. I will likewise include things not in the Bible itself that I think are interesting and also galore memory tricks that I use.

“In the beginning God…” Then God devised Adam and Eve. They had Cain, Able, and Seth. After a long amount of time of time comes Enoch. After another long amount of time of time, comes Noah. The story of the Tower of Babel is next. More than 1000 years later, comes Abraham.

Abraham is promised to be the father of a great nation. So it is from Abraham that the story of God’s chosen people began. Abraham had Isaac. Isaac had Jacob and Esau. Jacob’s name was changed to Israel, which means “wrestles with God.” Israel had 12 sons, which become the 12 tribes of Israel. The most widely known and esteemed son is Joseph. Joseph was sold into slavery, taken to Egypt, rose to number two, and brings the whole family of Israel (66 people) to Egypt to save them from the famine. Then Joseph dies and this concludes the book of Genesis.

The book of Exodus opens a good deal of 400 years later. We find the family of Israel no longer in a esteemed status. They have been taken as slaves. Now this next share is not in the Bible. I read it from a Jewish author, but it does explain the story somewhat. We know that the family of Israel was brought to Egypt in order to be saved from the famine, but where did they come from? They were living in the land that was promised and given to Abraham. So the Jewish persons felt that the reason they were taken as slaves in Egypt was a punishment from God because they failed to return to the Promised Land after the famine was over.

Back to the story. Up to this time God has dealt with person people, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, etc. But now we have for the initial time (after a amount of time of 400 years of silence), God revealing Himself to the masses in signs and wonders. Remember this, you will see it again. The signs and wonders are the plagues that God did to Egypt in order to get the Pharaoh to let His persons go. Once freed into the desert, God gives them laws, directions on how to build the tabernacle, how to do sacrifices, etc. Then they build all this stuff and we end the book of Exodus.

Leviticus has a bad reputation for being filled with laws. It deserves each bit of that reputation because that is incisively what it is.

Numbers has a bad reputation for being filled with census numbers. It does not is worthy of this reputation. There is a lot of plot development in Numbers. Numbers begins with a census that not only counts the men (estimates put the full number of people, including women and children, someplace among 2 and 3 million) but organizes them into a unified group, competent of moving as one. Then they move from where God gave them the laws to the Jordan River and ready to enter the Promised Land in 11 days. They send out 12 spies. Ten of the spies come back too affrighted to proceed. Two come back with selfconfidence to proceed. The two are Joshua and Caleb. The penalty for not going into the Promised Land is to wander around in the desert for 40 years. They wandered for 40 years in a space that took them only 11 days to cross in the primary place. They wandered until all humans over the age of 20 had died, with two exceptions, Joshua and Caleb. At the end of Numbers they have returned to the Jordan River and are ready to undertake it again.

Deuteronomy covers a amount of time of 60 days. Thirty days Moses was giving speeches. He reminded the people what they have been through and furthering them not to repeat the fault that their fore fathers made. Moses dies and 30 days of mourning then Joshua takes the lead. This is the last of the five books of Moses, also called the Torah, the Law, or the Pentateuch. The rest of the Old Testament was largely written by the Prophets. So when you see, in the New Testament, references to the Law and the Prophets, you will know they are referring to the Old Testament.

The book of Joshua is then the story of Joshua leading the humans into the Promised Land and driving out those who lived there. Here is a little known fact. The aim of God’s chosen people was so that God could be revealed to other humans through His chosen people. You may see this occur in stories like Rahab. She makes it clear that all were conscious that God was with the Israelites and they were very afraid. Also, the Israelites were to convert other persons from their pagan gods to following the Creator God. These converts were called Proselytes.

After they are settled in the Promised Land, they then need to be ruled over. This is done by a series of Judges. The original of the most unforgettable Judges is Deborah, because she is a woman in a male overshadowed society.

Then comes Gideon. Gideon is listed in the study Bible as a Judge for 40 years, but if you read the text you will find that he led a revolt versus those oppressing Israel at that time. When the wars were over they offer Gideon a Judgeship and he turns it down. So how do we resolve this evident contradiction? The answer lies in the translation of the word Judge. It more appropriately ought to be translated “leader”. So a Judge could have been a mayor, governor, general, etc. So after Gideon had finished being a general, they offered him the position of Governor and he turned that down.

The last famous Judge (in the book of Judges) was Samson.

Next comes the story of Ruth, who was alive for the duration of the time of the Judges.

Next come the stories in 1& 2 Samuel. Samuel is the last good Judge. One interesting thing with regards to Samuel is that he dies in 1 Samuel 25. So why would they name 2 Samuel after Samuel? Well, the full text of Samuel was found on one scroll. So the whole document was referred to as Samuel. Because it was so big they decisive to split it in half. Just as a memory trick, if it hadn’t been found on one scroll they would in all likelihood have named them the book of Samuel and the book of David.

The Israelites came to Samuel and pleaded for a king. So Samuel asked God for a king and God said that He wanted to be their King. But they continued to press Samuel for a king, so God at last says OK, I will give you a king, but you are not going to like it. So He told Samuel to anoint Saul of the tribe of Benjamin (you will listen this again later too) as king. Saul didn’t work out so good so God told Samuel to go anoint a son of Jesse. This turned out to be David. After Saul passed away in battle, David was made king. On his deathbed David handed the Kingdom over to Solomon, his son. When Solomon passed from physical life the Kingdom of Israel was splint into a separated Kingdom. The Northern Kingdom was called Israel and the Southern Kingdom was Judah. So there were only three Kings that ever ruled over a unified Israel.

More memory tricks. This is not precise but is utile for remembering where persons are in which book. Mentally split 1 Samuel, 1 & 2 Kings, and 1 & 2 Chronicles into halves. In the primary half of 1 Samuel the major reputation is Samuel. In the second half the major reputation is Saul. 2 Samuel is all regarding the sovereignty of King David. In the basi half of 1 Kings the major reputation is Solomon. In the second half of 1 Kings the major reputation is Elijah. In the introductory half of 2 Kings the major reputation is Elisha. In the second half of 2 Kings there is a list of kings both in the north and in the south, but no major character.

The end of 2 Kings has a lot of plot development. The Northern Kingdom of Israel was sacked and dispersed to other nations and intermarried with other races. They became known as the half-breeds or the Samaritans of Jesus’ day. That is why they were so despised by the Jews. The Southern Kingdom of Judah was sacked by Babylon and taken captive for 70 years. Then King Cyrus became king and permitted them to return to Jerusalem and Judah. An event that was prophesied by Isaiah (including the name Cyrus) with regards to 150 years before it happened. You will find it in Isaiah 44:24-28. Thus ends 2 Kings.

Now we enter into 1 & 2 Chronicles. 1 & 2 Chronicles is a snapshot of everything we have talked in regards to to this point. Back to the memory trick. The original half of 1 Chronicles is genealogy. Hidden in this genealogy is the Prayer of Jabez (Chapter 4). The genealogy ends with Saul. And then the second half of 1 Chronicles is in regards to the sovereignty of King David. So the primary half of 2 Chronicles is when it comes to the sovereignty of King Solomon. The second half of 2 Chronicles is when it comes to the divided Kingdoms and ends with King Cyrus freeing Judah.

Interesting to note is that after Solomon both the Northern and the Southern Kingdoms had 19 kings before being sacked. The Northern Kingdom almost altogether had one King rise up and over throw the reigning king; killing the king and his family. The southern kingship closely exclusively was passed down from father to son.

Next comes Ezra. Ezra was a high priest who reinstituted the procedures used in Temple worship.

Next Nehemiah was more like a governor who rebuilt the walls around Jerusalem in order to protect the people and the newly rebuilt temple.

This ends the chronological story of the chosen humans of God. The rest of the books in the Old Testament are located someplace in this story.

Esther lived for the duration of the Babylonian exile.

Job is probably a contemporary of Abraham or a grandson of Israel.

Psalms is a collection of songs written largely by David.

Proverbs is a collection of wise sayings for the most part by Solomon.

Ecclessiastes and Song of Solomon were more writings by Solomon.

Now we come to the prophets. There are 16 prophets; four Major Prophets and twelve Minor Prophets. The Major Prophets are Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Daniel. They are called Major Prophets merely for the amount of material they wrote.

The Major Prophets are split in half by a book called Lamentations. This book is composed of 5 poems that were recited by the humans for the duration of the Babylonian Exile. Basically, they say, “We have sinned versus God, please pardon us and restore us to the Promised Land.” These poems follow the book of Jeremiah, which will help you do not forget that Jeremiah wrote Lamentations.

Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Daniel all prophesied for the duration of the Babylonian Exile. Daniel had 3 friends named Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, so the book of Daniel is where you find their story.

These Minor Prophets were all before the Babylonian Exile: Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk and Zephaniah. The last 3 Minor Prophets (Haggai, Zechariah, and Malachi) were the only ones that prophesied after they had returned from the Babylonian Exile.

This ends the Old Testament.

Now comes 400 years of silence followed by God revealing Himself to the masses through signs and wonders (sound familiar); which are the miracles of Jesus Christ. There are a lot of things in this book that give one the impression that this book (which was written by over 40 writers over a amount of time of 1500+ years) was written by one Person; which it was. It was written by the Holy Spirit. This is one of my favorites. Consider this. Did 12 persons (who would not ordinarily associate with each other) come together and recognize that it had been 400 years since Malachi? Therefore the timing would be perfective for them to write regarding a messiah that would disclose Himself through signs and wonders. Also, they would have this fictional messiah fulfill all the O.T. prophecies in a way that utterly not anyone was expecting. Finally, all of them would go to their death professing this truth, without one of them recanting. This seems exceedingly improbable to me.

The New Testament opens with 4 Gospels (Mathew, Mark, Luke, and John). They tell the story of the life of Jesus Christ. Jesus corrected the definition of “God’s chosen people” from the descendents of Abraham to any individual who has a love for God and a love for other people, all other people. A careful read of the Old Testament will show that this was the unfeigned message of the Old Testament. Still the intent of God’s persons remains the same, to Glorify God and to give hope or courage to others to follow the Creator God, now made known to us through Jesus Christ.

Then Acts tells the story of how the Gospel disseminate from Jerusalem to Judea and Samaria and to all the earth. It is in Acts that we get the story of Saul from the tribe of Benjamin (sound familiar, I don’t know that it means anything, but interesting). It is chapter 9 where Saul has his conversion experience. An interesting note is Saul’s name modify to Paul. It is not the same kind of change like Abram to Abraham or Jacob to Israel. Those names were in truth changes from one to the other. Saul to Paul was more of a cultural name change. Like an individual named Jacque coming to live in the states and now going by the name James. It is the same name in two dissimilar cultures. It is not like Saul has a Jesus experience and Jesus changes his name, like what happened to Abram and Jacob.

After Acts we have 13 letters written by Paul. It is from these letters that we get most of our doctrine. These letters are arranged in order of size: Romans, 1 and 2 Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1 and 2 Thessalonians, 1 and 2 Timothy, Titus and Philemon. Hebrews is next. We don’t know who wrote Hebrews, which made the canonizing routine interesting because Hebrews did not have the backing of an apostle.

James was written by the half brother of Jesus. Jesus’ brother was very active in leading the church in Jerusalem. James the apostle had already been martyred by this time. He was the primary disciple to be martyred, but Stephen was the original martyr.

1 and 2 Peter were written by Peter.

1, 2, and 3 John were written most likely by the Apostle John. When reading the Gospel of John you see the word “believe” repeated assorted times. In 1 John the dominant word is “know”.

Jude was written by the brother of James, half brother of Jesus.

Revelation was written by the Apostle John and is the prophecy describing the return of Jesus Christ and the setting up of His eternal kingdom.

The Thread

That is the story of God’s chosen people. Throughout this story there is a thread that runs continuously, which gives us the sentiment that this is all one book. One book written by One hand. That thread is the Messiah. I will give but a few examples.

I will pick up the thread at Genesis 3:15. God gives us the initial promise of a Messiah that will suffer (be struck on the heal) but will deliver a deathblow (crush his head) to satan. We are painted a finelooking and unforgettable picture of the substitutionary nature of the Messiah in the story of Abraham laying Isaac on the altar as a sacrifice. Jacob refers to the Messiah as the Redeeming Angel when he gives the benediction to Joseph’s sons. The Israelites are instructed to manufacture an Ark of the Covenant. The law was kept inside it and the lid on the Ark was called “the Mercy Seat.” During the ceremony the High Priest would sprinkle blood from the perfective lamb onto the Mercy Seat. Such gorgeous imagery is already given that through the blood of the Perfect One comes mercy that will cover the law. Moses refers to Him as “a prophet like me.” David refers to Him as “my Redeemer.” Job calls Him, “my Vindicator.” Isaiah has 4 sections in his book called Servant Songs, where he talks regarding a suffering Messiah. Half of the book of Daniel is end time foretellings of the conquering Messiah setting up His eternal kingdom here on earth.

The Gospels of New Testament tells the story of the suffering Messiah in the flesh. Which is followed by how His story was disseminate all around the world. The letters give us the “truths that we are to know” with regards to the Messiah. The word doctrine means “teachings.” Then the Revelation tells us of the return of the same Messiah, this time as a Conqueror that will set up His eternal kingdom here on earth. The whole Bible then is regarding our Messiah, who is Jesus Christ.

Critical Question

If Jesus is the feeling of satisfaction of this Messiah, why is it that the Jews don’t recognize Him? Near as I may tell the only reason they reject Jesus is because He did not set up His eternal kingdom. I learned something interesting when I audited a New Testament course at Campbellsville University. They said that before Jesus arrived on the scene, some of the Jewish Priests were beginning to instruct that they were to look for two Messiahs. Their understanding of the scriptures was such that there must be a suffering Messiah and a conquering Messiah and they could not resolve the two into one Messiah. They were just too different. They did not perceive the intent of the suffering Messiah and would accordingly look only for the conquering Messiah, the One that would set up His eternal kingdom here on earth.

How close they were to getting it. The New Testament then is the story of one Messiah and two comings. I heard one Jewish Priest put it this way. When the Messiah comes and sets up His eternal kingdom here on earth, we will ask Him, “Have you been here before?” Then we will know what to believe.

Not What I Expected

Since I am a teacher I wanted a movie and/or animation to go with the Bible stories. What I received is words to read and a voice reading the words. It would have been good if in the description of the DVD it stated exactly what you were receiving – only words and someone reading the words.

Not really DVD quality

The page of a book is on the screen with words being read, really lousy pictures for viewing, and seemingly not well-related to the text being read. It would be better to listen to as a CD! DO NOT waste your money on this poorly done DVD–pay a little more and get something that your kids can really LEARN from. My mistake to have ignored my instinct to NOT purchase this item–felt it was only fair to warn others of the extremely poor quality of this product.
